The word Azure is derived from the Arabic word for blue. Malachite gets its name from the Greek, malache, "mallow" in reference to its green leaf color.
These stunning Azurite-Malachite cabochon is custom cut from lapidary material from the Bluebird Mine, near the town of Miami in Gila County, Arizona. The copper mine was discovered in 1900. It is currently owned and operated by the Cyprus Miami Mining Corp.
